Fold Instructions:
* Begin with two contrasting yet complementary pocket squares of the same size.
- Lay both squares on a flat surface – smooth out the wrinkles.
- Fold each square in half to create a rectangle.
- Lay one rectangle over the other about halfway across. The top rectangle should sit just below the edge of the bottom rectangle.
- Fold the bottom rectangle inward over the top rectangle.
- Fold the other side over to match, creating a square.
- Fold back each side.
- Carefully place the fold into your jacket pocket.
About the Fold:
Rectangle, upon rectangle, upon rectangle, upon rectangle. Maybe you have seen The Presidential Fold and that wasn’t enough. Perhaps you tried The Double Fold and that was also too subtle for your taste. You are someone who wants to have rectangles in your pocket, and in multiple layers beyond two. Well, you have found your fold.
The Layer Cake Fold is a pocket square fold that transcends multiple boundaries. Never use this fold with a tuxedo, you will only embarrass yourself. It is suitable for social occasions. Like other folds of its nature, it denotes a certain temperament. Speak softly, and carry a commanding fold.
This fold is meant for the most senior person in the room, after all. This fold speaks elegance without perseverance. This is the fold to reach for when you know that no one will question your honour or esteem. This is a fold of quiet confidence.
Or not. Use this fold on a cheerful Sunday with friends, and use two different colour pocket squares to draw attention to the different layers. Some will ask whether or not there are in fact four pocket squares. Never tell them. This is our secret.
