Fold Instructions:
* Begin with two contrasting yet complementary pocket squares of the same size.
- Lay both squares on a flat surface – smooth out the wrinkles.
- Fold each square, corner-to-corner, to form a triangle.
- With each triangle’s base at the top, place one triangle over the other – offsetting slightly.
- Fold in the corner of the bottom triangle to partially wrap the top triangle.
- Repeat for the other triangles corner.
- Fold the inner triangles bottom corner upward and inward so that its edges are flush with the layer below.
- Repeat for the other triangle.
- Rotate so that the closed edge is on the right-hand side.
- Fold the top corner behind – creating a smaller triangle.
- Carefully place the fold into your jacket pocket.
About the Fold:
This fold is a challenge compared to its three stairs counterpart but delivers a similar look using two fabrics. This pocket square fold has all the benefits of The Three Stairs Fold, but with more versatility.
The Four Stairs Fold speaks of elegance and sophistication, largely because it is deceivingly difficult to use two squares and getting all of those stairs to line up. This is a fold that can represent the skill of the one who folded the square, as well as the matching coordination with the two squares.
Used in a formal setting, two different coloured squares that contrast but have matching warmth can bring a touch of elegance to a tuxedo or dinner suit. This fold also works well with casual clothing, especially showing off with a patterned and a non-patterned square to accentuate the fact that you have used two squares to execute the fold.
You could also go bold and daring by using two patterned fabrics. You can be daring with this fold if you choose. You are, after all, skillful enough to fold it in the first place.
