Fold Instructions:
- Lay your pocket square on a flat surface – smooth out the wrinkles.
- With the corners at the top and the bottom, form a single pleat near the bottom corner.
- Create multiple thin pleats until just before the center point of the square.
- Create a reverse pleat with the top half, leaving the top corner exposed.
- Carefully holding each end, bend the formation to resemble the tidal wave.
- Carefully place the fold into your jacket pocket.
About the Fold:
There is a tsunami of style in this unique and deceptively difficult square to fold. This is not an every day option for a pocket square fold, but could be perfect for the right occasion. Make sure you have a nice, rigid fabric to start out with and soon you’ll be able to have a tidal wave in your pocket.
It’s a fun fold. Eye-catching and unique, this fold in the right setting could give that spark of creativity to the occasion. Maybe you’re going to a casual island wedding or a Caribbean themed party. This fold is great for that occasion that calls for a grand pocket square to bring style to an informal occasion.
This square does not go well with fabrics that are not rigid, and is ideally executed with a blue pocket square to give that ocean feel. That said, it doesn’t need to be used to convey the ocean either. Use a strong patterned square just for the fun of it. It is a flamboyant choice of pocket square fold, so have fun with it.
The Tidal Wave Fold is a fold made for fun and eccentricity. Don’t get too bogged down in the details, just show off the skill of your fold with the pocket square. It is almost guaranteed there won’t be two in the room using it.
