Fold Instructions:
- Lay your pocket square on a flat surface – smooth out the wrinkles.
- With the corners at the top and the bottom, fold the top corner behind, creasing above the halfway point.
- Form a pleat at the centerline by folding the bottom up.
- Form a second pleat under the first by folding the bottom up once more.
- Fold in half behind itself.
- Rotate the formation so that the pleats are at the top left.
- Fold the right corner behind the formation.
- Repeat for the left corner.
- Carefully place the fold into your jacket pocket.
About the Fold:
This is one of those folds that is perfect to wear in a tuxedo with a glass of champagne in one hand. There is no fold that carries the same elegance for what is actually a reasonably easy fold. Welcome to The Three Stairs Fold; the perfect fold for a formal occasion.
With The Three Stairs Fold, you get the benefits found with The Triangle Fold; a neat little arrow poking out of the pocket to say ‘look at this intellect’. The texture of the stairs gives the added grace suitable for your next gala event. This fold gives the wearer a look of sharpness and sophistication, compounded by the intricacies of the three pleats to let anyone know that you care about the small things in life.
Here’s another trick with this fold; it looks good when perfectly made and taut, and that is reasonably easy to accomplish. You could use a patterned square, but solid colours for a black tie event will really do this fold justice.
The Three Stairs Fold is recognised as a fold exclusively for tuxedos. Reserve this fold for a formal event and ensure that it is not over-used in other occasions.
